Well for the weeks to come I'll be doing the swap 22re to 7mge.Done lots of reading and research into it.I hope it all goes as planned without to many hurtles to overcome.I'll try and keep pics and info up to date so that it can make it easier for the next person who's willing to take on the task.
Wish me luck...And hope to be on the trails with it soon

Well it all starts off with a plan and mine is no different.More Power.
Why go with 7mge well after all my researching on all the options out there I wanted to stay with the Toyota goods: meaning motor. We've heard so many going with 4.3ltr and the others but not many in this direction.
So I wanted to be bold and unique in ways.I like the idea of staying in the toyota family and the power options are all there.
Here's a comparison
22RE, 2.4L, 112 HP@4600, 142 Ft-Lbs@3400
vs
7M-GE, 3.0L, 199 HP@6000, 188 Ft-Lbs@3600

Also theres other benefits !
-no custom engine or tranny mounts
-wireing harness colour codes are similar to the trucks
-no expensive bellhousings needed
-all your metric fuel & power steering lines will thread into the 7mge!

Cant wait to see this all go together Tal its gunna be cooooooooooooool!

I'm sure you must have seen this on pirate4x4.com. Execellent write up on the 7MGE swap.
It looks like a lot of work, engine mounts to be built, different rad, electric push fan, alternator relocation etc., but it's a one nice motor! I'm not a fan of timing belts and muddy environments though, but hey, with those extra ponies you won't have to worry about being hung up in the mud!

I can't wait to see the pictures. They should've put those engines in there to begin with.

I'm guessing you'll be needing room in the garage for it. I just need to find a place to store the 88. I'll give you a call about that pretty soon.

Replace the head gasket while it is out of the truck, they are a problem . Do some research on head bolt torque, factory says 58 but others say 71lb ft

Good luck. For me it was a toss up between the 7M and 5VZ. Both are great swaps. Post pics.

I also just picked up a 88 supra with the 7MGE, 5spd. I just got it runnuing so I might drive it for a while until I get the time to drop it in the truck.

I have been reading alot on this swap and it should go pretty smooth. The only thing that might be a bit of a problem is the modifying the oil pan to fit with the IFS.

HKS gasket requires special head and block prep and gasket costs a bundle. OE gasket is best for a quick cheep job.

I have a "stock" gasket if you want ? $60.00

I have the 7MGTE i'm doing the HKS steel gasket and ARP studs on , so i have no need for the stock size gasket in the kit ...
